The Teton County Sheriff’s Office is hiring for the position of Patrol Deputy. Candidates with or without experience are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will become part of a key component in the criminal justice system and can enjoy a challenging and rewarding career in law enforcement.

Sheriff Deputies display tolerance for those of different values, possess good listening and communication skills and are approachable. They are team players, honest, flexible and open minded and must have integrity, a sense of humor and an attitude of service. Patrol Deputies are responsible for enforcing Wyoming State Statues; preventing and detecting suspicious or illegal activity; responding to calls for service; conducting initial investigations; interviewing witnesses, victims, participants and suspects; preparing reports, forms and documents and providing testimony in court proceedings. Successful candidates must be able to think clearly and take action in tense and uncertain conditions, while maintaining professionalism at all times. Spanish speaking/comprehension skills are a significant asset.

The starting annual salary range for Patrol Deputies is $52,845. Salary for lateral (experienced) applicants will be determined after experience and qualifications are examined and verified. Benefits include health and dental insurance, Wyoming retirement and life insurance as well as vacation, holiday, sick and comp time. Employees get use of the Recreation Center and the Town/County exercise facility and access to bus and ski pass reductions. Opportunities for advancement are available. The position is 24/7 and requires shift work (i.e., nights, holidays and weekends) with 10 hour shifts and take home vehicles (within boundary). Successful applicants are employed on a probationary status for a period of one year and are asked to sign a two year commitment.

Testing will begin on Tuesday, October 24, 2017. This includes a physical fitness assessment followed by a written exam. See application for benchmarks that must be met for the run, situps and pushups. If successful in the above tests, you will be ranked based on your experience, performance in the Physical Fitness Assessment, and test score on the written exam. Top candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview to be conducted on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Applicants will receive additional information about the testing and interview once qualifications are verified.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Show proof of being 21 years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Show proof of a valid drivers license
  • Pass the physical fitness assessment, written exam and oral interview
  • Complete a thorough background investigation
  • Submit to a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation and a medical exam

Personnel without current Wyoming certification will be required to attend and pass the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy’s Peace Officer Basic Course in Douglas, Wyoming. Lateral candidates may transfer their certification if approved by POST.
